Subject: Update from DC

I just wanted to send you all a “feel-good” update from our meetings last week in Washington with the Office of Head Start!

Alvaro and I invited Ligia Hendrie to join us. She’s a current student and lives in Watertown, NY. The 3 of us made a presentation to the group of other grantees and staff from the Office of Head Start.  

Ligia’s presentation was a joy. She was passionate about our program, about the support we provide, about immigrants needing to learn how to speak English, about the “perfect translation” in the videos and course materials, and the high-quality of the instruction she has received. When she completed her presentation, there were very few dry eyes!

 Interestingly, Ligia studied pre-med for 4 years in El Salvador.  She had been at the point of applying to med school when she decided to be a “good mom” (her words) instead. Alvaro and Rick have worked hard to get her El Salvador college credit to transfer to our program. She plans on finishing her bachelor’s degree with us.
